Pre-Procedure and Post-Procedure Guide
Dermal Fillers
Before Your Treatment
Discontinue using skincare products containing actives: Stop using retinol, retinoids, or other exfoliating acids at least two days before your treatment. Continue with gentle cleansing and moisturizing.
Protect your skin from the sun: Diligently use SPF50+ sunscreen whenever outdoors or near windows. Recent sun exposure can increase your skin’s sensitivity and irritation during the treatment.
The Day of Your Treatment
Arrive with clean skin: Please arrive at your appointment with clean skin. We can provide a gentle cleanser if needed.
Eat and drink as usual: You can eat and drink normally before your treatment.
Treatment Time: Please allow approximately 90 minutes for your treatment, which includes:
30-60 minutes for numbing to take effect.
30-45 minutes for the actual filler injection procedure.
After Your Treatment
You may experience mild swelling, small bumps at the injection site or bruising following your dermal filler treatment. This is normal and will typically resolve within 0-5 days. You can usually cover these with makeup after 24 hours.
For the first 4 hours after your treatment, avoid applying any firm pressure to the treated area. This includes things like:
Rubbing or massaging the area
Vigorous facial expressions
Sleeping face down
Ideally, minimize firm pressure on the treated area for a full 24 hours. This helps to prevent the filler from migrating or shifting. Continue to protect your skin from the sun with a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 50 or higher every day, even on cloudy days.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long do the results of Dermal Fillers last?
The duration of results varies depending on the type of filler used and individual factors, such as the patient's metabolism. Typically, results can last from several months to a year or longer.
Will I look puffy after my dermal filler treatment?
No. The most important thing about fillers is choosing the right filler and the correct placement. Some fillers attract more water than others, which can lead to an unnatural, "puffy" appearance if not done correctly. Our expert providers prioritize natural, subtle enhancements to replace volume loss, not to create an overly augmented look.
Are all dermal fillers the same?
No, fillers have different consistencies, water-attracting properties, and mobility. Choosing the right filler for your specific needs is crucial. For example, the filler used for cheeks will be different than the one used for lips or jawline.
Will I bruise or swell after my dermal filler treatment?
Some bruising and swelling are possible, depending on the treatment area and the amount of filler used. We utilize cannulas to minimize the potential side effects.
Will people notice that I have dermal fillers?
With the right filler selection and expert placement, downtime is minimal to none, and the results look very natural. You can achieve a refreshed look without anyone noticing you've had any work done.
